Horsetail (Equistum Arvense L.) an herbal remedy dating back to at least ancient Roman and Greek medicine, was used traditionally to stop bleeding, heal ulcers and wounds, and treat tuberculosis and kidney problems. Equisetum arvenseor common horsetail is a tuberous, hairy rhizome with an erect stem. It does not have any leaves or flowers. When the stem is fertile, it resembles an asparagus. The stems wither and begin to turn brown in early summer, giving way to fresh, green stemsof horsetail. The withered stems, which are hollow, are gathered to make horsetail extract.
